After Providence started with a love for life’s simple, quiet things; making slowly by hand its natural outflow.
At present we enjoy making illustrations, papercut art, ceramics, and surface pattern design. We are always looking to develop new ways by which to share the wonderful, curious world we live in.
A big part of our process is working with mixed media. We work predominantly with gouache, watercolour, soft pastels, pencil, digital media, and paper, making illustrations that we hope convey an earnestness and a joy for everything around us. Our work draws from slow days indoors and the natural world beyond.
Chelsea Sia is an architectural designer, illustrator, and ceramicist based in Singapore. She is always and ever concerned with a sense of place, and this perspective percolates into everything she does. She sees herself both as a lurker on the fringes of contemporary art and an occasional practitioner of it. Her paintings, sculptures, and ceramics have been exhibited in galleries and retailers in the UK, US, France, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Chelsea divides her time between Singapore and Brisbane, Australia, where she is undertaking a secondment for a building project. When she is not designing or delivering architecture, she is drawing furiously and writing newsletters to friends on her Substack, The Daylily. She is currently illustrating for a collection of moving poems, working on a picture book, and together with her best friend developing a set of design codes for a sports centre in rural-urban Cambodia.
